Duping: How to Stay Pretty Without Hurting Your Wallet.

Being in college and trying to stay up on the current trends isn't always the easiest on your pockets. As a girl, sometimes beauty comes first, and you begin to wonder if you would rather buy the Naked palette or your  Intro to Public Relations book (or maybe that's just me!).

Oftentimes, you can find items just as good as your coveted beauty products at the – dare I say it? -- drugstore! Our local CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid stores carry most of these beauty products for an extremely low price! Also, I’ll be providing you with a website that carries dupes of some of the most famous YouTube palettes. All of the dupes are pretty close to their high-end counterparts! If you give them a try, comment below and let me know how they work for you!

My first and favorite duplicate would have to be Maybelline’s “The Falsies” mascara in replacement of Benefit “They're Real.” I found Benefit “They're Real” through a couple of YouTube gurus and decided to try it myself. My favorite thing about “They're Real” is that the brush is rounded on the tip, which makes it easier for you to get the lashes in the inner corner of your eyes! Maybelline doesn't have the same brush, but the consistency of the product is similar. Although Maybelline’s “The Falsies” can get a little clumpy, both products claim to make your eyelashes "false.” Would you rather shell out $23.99 or $6.99 on mascara? It's completely up to you!

Two of my favorite MAC Cosmetics lipsticks, “Snob” and “Angel,” have great dupes in the drugstore. Most of the time, the dupes for MAC lipsticks can be found in Revlon’s lipstick section. The dupe for “Snob” is Revlon’s “Pink Pout,” and the consistency is pretty much the same, as it’s very pigmented. “Snob” retails for $15, and “Pink Pout” retails for $7.

“Angel,” which is famously associated with socialite Kim Kardashian, is a pinky-nude color. It’s very flattering on most skin tones and is always sold out. Just in case you head to MAC the day it’s sold out, try Revlon’s “Primrose.” “Primrose” looks darker in the tube, but when switched, it looks exactly the same with the same finish.

Last but not least, a website I recently found called Tmart.com has dupes for the Naked 2, Naked 3 and Naked Basics palette. Below are links to reviews of these products and to the actual products for purchase. The original Naked 2 palette is $52.00, and the Naked Basics is $28.00. The Tmart dupe for Naked 2 is $9.99, and the Naked Basics is $9.17.

Happy duping ladies! Try to save that money for things like gas and groceries and less on your favorite expensive makeup palettes and lipsticks!

Beauty & Brains: Top 6 Things You Need From Ulta

Every time I walk into Ulta I just get so overwhelmed by all the amazing things in there. Yes, I’m a self-proclaimed Ulta lover and I’m not scared to scream it from the mountaintops! But because there is so much stuff in there, you might not know what to choose from.  Here's just a few things I would recommend picking up because they are definitely worth the splurge or the couple of bucks! Hopefully I can help with the top 5 things I would buy from Ulta from makeup to skincare.

1. Naked 3 Palette by Urban Decay
Price: $54.00
Naked 3 is known for its rose gold hues which are in style this fall season. They range from light shimmery pinks to dark black, matte shades. This is the first palette out of all of the Naked palettes and the colors are all new.  It also comes with a double-ended brush and eye shadow primer. This palette will have your eyes glittering for fall!

2. Clarisonic Mia
Price: $99.00
If you have a lot of problems with your skin, I would recommend the Clarisonic Mia! It gives you a deeper clean than using your hands or a washcloth. It makes your skin noticeably smoother and your pores become smaller. You can use it with your favorite face wash and remember to always keep it charged so you can take it with you on the go!

3. Real Technique Brushes
Price: $17.99
If you know anything about makeup brushes, you know that they’re super expensive! But there are always loopholes around that! Real Technique brushes are affordable and work just as well as Mac or Sigma brushes. They’re also a lot more colorful and that always makes things so much more fun to use!

4. Pineapple Facial Enzyme Mask
Price: $3.99
An exfoliating mask used to help reveal your inner most glowing skin!  It clears away dull skin cells and helps create skin renewal. It’s great for normal to combo skin. Did I mention it smells exactly like pineapples? Who wouldn’t love that?!

5. Organix Hair Products
Price $7.99-$13.99
I personally love every conditioner and shampoo I’ve ever gotten by Organix. They all smell amazing and they actually work. I use the Hydrating Tea Tree Mint and the Biotin and Collagen sets. The Biotin and Collagen have made my hair grow significantly! The best thing is that they aren’t super expensive and Ulta usually have great BOGO deals or half off deals on these products!
 6. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream
Price $5.99

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream:
  • Straddles the line between lipstick and gloss
  • Creamy, lustrous formula applies like silk
  • Soft matte finish exudes a sensual glow
  • Unique innovative texture adds the perfect polish to any look
This is personally one of my favorite lip products and it's also a great price. Very college girl friendly! It looks great by itself or with a lip liner! NYX is often on sale at Ulta and these products definitely go quick. So if you have your eye on one particular color you better move fast!

5 YouTube Gurus You Should Be Following Now

Growing up in the generation where YouTube basically taught you everything you know, you feel so connected to those individuals who decide to spread their knowledge to millions all over the world.  The beauty community of YouTube taught me everything makeup- and hair-related that I know, from Beauty Blenders, primers and eyeshadow tutorials using the infamous Naked palette. But I’ve always enjoyed watching the videos of the gurus I could relate to more. I’m sure after you watch my 5 favorite gurus you’ll be hooked by their amazing personalities and their outrageous makeup collections!

What drew me to her is that she’s practical! She doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty to have a good end result. She loves to use her fingers instead of brushes and the occasional jokes make the 5-minute tutorial more enjoyable. She’s aware of her flaws and strives to make girls feel beautiful, even if it’s a “No Makeup Makeup look” or  her full face tutorials! She’s also extremely personable and her kids makes the videos even better!

What I love about Jeanine is that she’s a college student and has every tip for getting ready in a rush or just looking cute on a regular day on campus. She's relatable and responds to subscribers in her comments (she responded to me once!). She takes requests so she can meet the needs of her subscribers! Her countless tutorials, DIYs and hauls keep me coming back. She also does a lot of videos on DIY projects, Outfit of the day, vlogs, and just showing how her everyday life is.

Her channel is full of beauty tips, DIYs, room décor, food recipes and even touching on her relationship with her boyfriend who is of a different race. Nabela is also different than a lot of beauty Youtubers because she touches on her personal life about being plus size. She gives exercise and diet tips and also ways you can do your makeup to make your face look slimmer. She has a beautiful soul on camera is her makeup skills are amazing! She covers everything you would ever want to know! She’s also planning for her upcoming wedding! Can't wait to see the videos leading up to that!

Two of the most gorgeous twins I’ve ever seen, Kendra and Kelsey have a huge following in the makeup and natural hair community. They have the best hair tutorials for girls with long and/or natural hair. Most people can't even believe that it’s their hair, but they have videos talking about their natural hair journey.  They are passionate about helping women look and feel good about themselves and giving them every tip they could possibly need!

She’s an amazing makeup artist and great with hair. Of course, you may be interested in her page because she’s gorgeous, but she has an exuberant personality that makes all her videos interesting. She loves to take things step by step and always details what products she uses in the box below (super helpful for finding dupes and coupon codes!).

Top 5 Things Every College Girl Needs in Her Purse

Freaking out about what you need to keep in your purse?  I surveyed a couple of girls on our VSU campus to see what their tops are! Here are some of the most essential things to carry in your Michael Kors or Steve Madden bag!
1. Pepper Spray/Taser

A necessity for every girl in college is some sort of protection! College could be a potentially dangerous place because you can't trust everyone! Some guys will be sketchy and try to approach you in a way that makes you really uncomfortable. In those cases, just pull out your pepper spray/ taser and give them what they deserve for being a creep.

2. Portable Charger

You’ll never know when your phone will die or where you’ll be! Having this handy device will keep your phone charged; the only downfall is that you have to constantly keep it charged also! Nevertheless, having this in your purse will save you a lot of problems!

3.Wallet/Cash

Of course you can never forget your cash or your wallet. It would be a shame to get to the counter of Ulta and you forgot your wallet at home! Always check before you walk out the door! There’s a good acronym to remember what things to take with you: P.M.I.L.K. Phone, Money, ID, License, and Keys.

4. Phone

Something none of us girls can live without! Without your phone you’re totally out of the know. Your GroupMe is at 200, texts at 15, and you missed Beyonce’s most recent pic on IG. Never leave it. You never know when an emergency will happen! Also, keep a car charger in your car just in case!

5. Perfume

My favorite one on the whole list! You can never leave the house without smelling good, and when you forget, you have a backup in your purse!  On a day where you’re having a study date with your crush, you’ll be happy you remembered to sneak your Juicy Couture or PINK perfume in your purse on the way out the door.
Honorable mentions:  Also don’t forget your mints (for obvious reasons), bobby pins (hair emergencies), your favorite chapstick or lipstick, hand sanitizer, and your agenda!

More Money, More Problems: Budgeting Tips in College

College is an amazing experience but you also learn valuable life lessons throughout your 4(+) years at your university. You learn about study habits, how to wash your own clothes, how to feed yourself, and the biggest is how to manage your own money! Being in charge of your money can be a major responsibility. But don’t worry, you’re ready for it! College is full of memories, but also full of extra finances, such as rent, gas, food, etc.  Just remember to utilize these 5 tips!

1. Have a source of income
Whether it’s from your parents or your own job, you always need to have a flow of money coming in for your living expenses.  Evaluate how much money you’re receiving altogether and start from here! There are plenty of jobs available on campus through Student Employment and through Career Opportunities! There are also off campus jobs that probably pay a lot more but it's harder to work your school schedule around those times. Also with off campus jobs you're not off when school is over you still have to go even when your friends are out having a great time on breaks.
2. Start making a list of all the things you need
When you start to narrow it down and figure out how much each item costs, you can make a list and see how it matches up with your current budget. You have to think about how much your groceries, school books, gas and other miscellaneous things fit into the equation!
3. Prioritize and plan for everything
Is the Chris Brown and Trey Songz concert coming up? How about your friends b-day? Try to set aside some extra cash so you can do everything you want! This should be once in every blue moon for these events so try and enjoy yourself and save up ahead of time!
4. Have an emergency fund (strictly for emergencies)
You never know when something will pop up or happen, so always be prepared. Your car may get a flat tire on the way home from break and this emergency fund may be just the thing to get you out of your bind! Only use this for real emergencies; a shopping spree at Ulta isn’t an emergency… Trust me, I know! ;)
5. Credit card bills
In my case, I only use my card for emergencies. Try to only use your card when you have no other option. The interest rates on credit cards are nothing to play with! Try to stay current and keep track of everything you buy with it. It will save you some time and you won't have to worry about when you have to pay it!

Try to stick to the budget you created for yourself. If circumstances in your life change, just adjust your budget to what you deem appropriate. Life and college will throw some financial struggles your way! Just try to be prepared because it’s all a learning experience to help us grow!

Happy Birthday Grandma....

They say losing someone close to you changes you forever and I couldn't agree more.My grandmother Brenda Joyce Holt passed away on December 5th 2014 from pancreatic cancer.  Cancer took my grandma away from me less than a year. She was told that she would only live for a few months but she kept fighting and pushing to the point that we thought she might actually beat it. But after several test and our hopes getting higher and higher we were crushed to find out that it had gotten worse. My grandmother decided to quit chemo because she was tired of being in pain. So all that was left to do was to prepare ourselves. But how do you really prepare for someone who's been in your life since day one to pass? The first person to have been close to you to ever die? It was probably the most heartbreaking thing to do because I knew she would be in a better place and out of pain but that would leave my family and I without her. Without her what were we going to do? All our lives changed after that day. I lost my grandma, my best friend, and one of the best things that ever happened to me. It's the weirdest feeling wanting to pick up the phone and call them knowing no one will answer. I constantly have the urge to have a conversation with her and for her to tell me everything will be okay and that she loves me. My grandma and I had a wonderful relationship that I'm blessed to say many people don't have with their grandparents. My grandmother was so important in my life. She taught me how to read when I was extremely young so when I started school I was reading past my grade level. Because of her I always keep my nose in a book. Through middle and high school she drove me to school everyday and picked me up and never complained about it one bit. We had a special relationship. We shared a love of crime TV shows , love for good food, and a love for each other. I'll never forget my moments spent with her even when she was cursing me out for having a smart mouth. We still loved each other endlessly.  One thing she constantly told everyone while she was sick was that she wanted to stay alive long enough to see me graduate. I wish she could be there for that day because i know she would have been so extremely happy. So when the day finally arrives I know she'll be right there in heaven cheering me on louder than anyone else.  It's her first birthday in heaven and I know she is enjoying every single moment of it. I love you my Grammy and Happy Birthday.

Through acceptance, encouragement, and individuality, humanity can be reborn. Hallelujah Trends is brand that pushes you to be yourself, break barriers with your unwillingness to change what makes you... you. I'm a new age hippie, trapped in a war zone, trying to spread the peace, love, and nonviolence

Life, Love & College: 5 Red Flags He’s Not Your Prince Charming

You want your boyfriend to be perfect, right? Ever dated someone and every single little thing he did turned you off? You want your boyfriend to be everything you envisioned and when he’s not, you start to contemplate what made you like him in the first place! Was it that gorgeous smile or was it his intellect? Regardless, you’re noticing he’s not the guy for you. So here are 5 red flags that will  help you make up your mind on if he’s going to be your next ex or your ideal Prince Charming.
1. He doesn’t motivate you!
If your potential boyfriend or current boyfriend doesn’t motivate you to be a better you, then what is he around for? You should want to be with someone who pushes you towards your dreams, not away from them. You know those long nights when you want to give up studying to go hangout with your friends? He should be there to get you back on the right track. If he’s not trying to be the Jay-Z to your Beyoncé or the Kanye to your Kim....Dump him. Quick!
2. He’s not reliable!
If he’s the last person you think to call when you have an emergency, then what is he around for? No, really? You should always be able to call him and ask him to help you out. If he doesn’t come through for you ever, you might want to reconsider that cutie.
3. He’s controlling!
If he’s trying to keep you to himself every single second of the day, something might be a little weird about him. He shouldn’t be trying to tell you what to do, what to wear, who to hang out with, and where to go! All those decisions are solely up to you and no one else. It’s always great for a people in a relationship to do things separately and come back together at the end of the day to talk about it. You'll definitely appreciate the time you spent away from each other because you'll miss him more while he's gone.
4. He doesn't make sacrifices!
It’s always good for couples to have different interests. But when one person starts to belittle the other's interests, things can go sour quickly. He’s not interested in going thrifting with you, doesn’t want to go to the Beyoncé concert with you or it seems like he doesn’t really care about the aspects of your life that make you, YOU! When you openly sit there and watch football with him, you expect the same thing in return. Relationships are all about give and take!
5. He doesn’t make you feel loved
Every girl wants to feel like her man is proud to have her on his arm! Like Kanye and Future said: “I found me a trophy.” You want your man to feel the same! If it means making you his #WCW or holding your hand in public, your man should always make you feel like you can be the princess to his prince charming.

If you feel like any of these let him know! You should never stay in a situation where you aren't happy. It'll be better for you in the long run if you realize what you want and what you need so you can do everything you need to do to get it. So don't be afraid... There are plenty of other fish in the sea!

Keep Calm and Get Things Done: Tips For Getting Through Stress

Now that we're getting deeper into the school year, you may find yourself with a lot on your plate and having problems prioritizing what’s important to you. I can personally tell you that school just started and I’m already trying to figure out how I can make things easier going forward into the semester!
Being in an organization and a sorority, going to class, going to work, having an internship, doing homework and having a boyfriend takes up a lot of my time. Therefore, it's important for me prioritize and be organized! Here are a few tips to ease you into the semester!

Tip 1: Keep an agenda or calendar and constantly UPDATE it!

Having a calendar or agenda is so important! Always writing down what's going on in your life and what’s coming up in the future will help keep things in perspective. Also, color-coding what events are important can help you remember what's going on! I always keep important things in pink and other events in green! I just recently bought a new agenda that I'm in love with and I think every girl should have in their arsenal! These agendas offer inspirational quotes and messages on certain days and STICKERS! ( my favorite lol)  I've definitely found myself using this agenda more than any other agenda I've ever had just due to how much fun i actually have keeping up with everything!

http://www.shopbando.com/collections/agendas

Tip 2: Have a good spirit!
Always commend yourself for the amazing things you do. Know that you make mistakes and that you can’t be perfect at everything. Don't be so hard on yourself. College is a learning experience and every day will be completely different than the next. Find a good group of friends you can go out with and just laugh. Unnecessary drama will keep you from reach your optimal potential so surround yourself with like minded individuals. Every day isn’t going to be sunshine and rainbows, but love yourself for who you are at this very moment and make the best of it!

Tip 3: Sleep, Eat and Exercise!

We all know that we’re lacking in this area. Not having time, money or energy are the main reasons why these three things don’t get done the way they’re supposed to!  A good night’s rest can always help you start your day off right and make everything a lot less stressful. Eat more fruits, veggies, protein and whole grains to keep your mind and stomach right! We pay to go to our school gym so GO!  Freshman 15 doesn't stop when you're a freshman it'll strike eventually and you will not be happy! Just going to the gym 2 -3 times a week can help you lose weight and relieve some stress. Sometimes, just a walk around the park can help you cool down from a really hard day!

Tip 4: Get some quiet time!

Having your own personal space is so important! Even if you are living in the same room as someone else, try to find some moments to spend by yourself. Just getting away from a stressful environment can help you recharge and reduce some of that stress.

Tip 5: Remember what you’re in school for!
Lastly, try to remember why you actually came to college! Although you came to learn and focus on your academics, the college experience involves so much more. The balance is what make things stressful. It often feels like there can't possibly be enough hours in the day for you to get everything completed, and sometimes you can't. That’s okay! One person can only handle so much, so learn when to say no! You have to pass your classes before you can be an amazing reporter, designer, or writer.

Stay positive!

Decorating: Make Your Place Unique On A Budget!

Many of us have finally made that  big step and moved  off campus! No matter where you’re moving, you want to make your place unique and your own! Here are a few tips to getting your new place from "blah" to stunning.
Subtle things can make your apartment have more of a personality to it. By adding small touches of things you like and things your roommate(s) may like could have your living room full of life! Something to try is adding some color to your couch with pillows that you can either buy or make yourself. You can get some that accent your other decorations or you can add to the ones you have by putting cute buttons or bows on them! You can also go to your local Goodwill or thrift stores to find old picture frames that you can paint and make your own!

For those of you who are of age, decorating your wine glasses are good way to spice up your dishes. You can buy some inexpensive wine glasses from Dollar Tree or Walmart, get some acrylic paint and get to work! There are so many designs you can do and you could also give away some extras as presents. Be creative and have fun with it!

If you’re into dim lighting and candles like me, you can try out this next one which it’s not hard at all! Use some mason jars and glitter and make your own candle holders and/or makeup brush holder. I think I may use them for both!  Mason jars are also sold at Walmart or Dollar Tree. This cute design doubles as two things, which gives you more options for use!

Small things like clothes pin magnets for your refrigerator can be cute. Also, putting your favorite shopping bags on your wall and actually using them for storage can help your new place feel like home.

And dont be afraid to try your hand at painting some of your own paintings for your room or living room!

Be You! Be creative! And have fun! Remember you have to live there, so make it as comfortable as possible. If you need any more ideas, head to Pinterest.com for a little inspiration. There's nothing wrong with adding a little sugar and spice to something that needs it!

A little mascara never hurt : My current mascara favorites!

Throughout the year 2015 I've found mascaras that have gotten me through a good day and a bad day.  There's nothing like falling in love with makeup especially mascara.  If you're looking for something to make your eyes pop even when you don't want to do your makeup mascara is quick and easy! Some mascaras target lengthening your lashes while some focus on making them more voluminous! Figure out what exactly what look you're going for and just go from there! Before I give you a breakdown of my favorites I thought it would be helpful to give you some tips on what to look for while shopping for mascaras.

Tip #1 PRICE!
There are endless possibilities to what mascaras you can buy but the price is what really makes a difference.  You can go for a drugstore product like Covergirl, Maybelline, Wet & Wild, etc.  You could also look at high end products which could be Benefit Cosmetics, Tarte, Urban Decay, etc. Sometimes the drugstore product that costs five  dollars might be better than the high end that costs twenty five dollars! You really just have to try them out and keep in mind what works for your budget.

Tip #2 Waterproof or Water Soluble!
Waterproof mascara will last throughout the day and never smudge, but it's also harder to remove when you're ready take off your make-up. On the other hand, water-soluble mascara provides lighter coverage and is less work to remove, but will likely have to be re-applied every five or six hours to keep it looking fresh.

Take those tips into consideration because some of my favorites might not work out for you!
My current two favorite mascaras are Benefit They're Real and Covergirl SuperSizer! They both have great consistencies but I  think what makes them amazing are the brushes!

Sephora's website describes Benefit They're Real mascara as "A lengthening mascara that curls, volumizes, lifts, and separates lashes for an "out-to-here" look." They also give a brief description of what it does which states" This breakthrough bestseller reveals lashes you never knew you had! The specially designed brush features staggered bristles that grab close to the root, boosting length and volume beyond belief. The custom-domed tip uses precision bristles to lift, define, and curl even your tiniest lashes. With a glossy, jet-black, long-wearing formula, you’ll flaunt luxurious, silky lashes that won’t smudge, clump, or dry out." As a consumer I can say this product stands true to the description. I've never tried any other mascara that gave me volume and length all in one! It also doesn't smudge throughout a hot humid day down here in Valdosta! The price point for this mascara is $24. Its definitely more on the pricey side but you get the bang for your buck!

sephora.com
Covergirl.com
The Covergirl SuperSizer mascara is fairly new but I took a chance and decided to try it and I have definitely not regretted it. The Covergirl website states "The Super Sizer by LashBlast Mascara gives you 400% more corner-to-corner volume for full, fanned out lashes. Our amazing Lash Styler transforms even small lashes— just twirl as you apply it to your lashes for an instantly Super Sized lash look." The brush is what wowed me about this mascara! The bristles go from small to large and they deposit the mascara on the root of your lashes to bring it up! It's a great mascara to build multiple coats with!

So happy mascara shopping lovelies. If you're local check out Ulta for your beauty products they have a huge variety to choose from. Hope this helped!

Oh, the Places You'll Go.

Several aspects of my blog will revolve around my life experiences and lessons that I've learned but I also wanted to highlight my travels. So that's where Oh, the Places You'll Go came from because I want to show where I went and what I did with you guys!  So after a long exciting weekend I had to opportunity to travel to Jacksonville. The trip was planned by the Greek Life department and everything was paid for (which I enjoyed. lol)  I'm apart of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,Inc which is apart of the National Panhellenic Council. The NPHC and CPC traveled to Jacksonville to attend the Jacksonville Jaguars football game.  My sorority sisters and I had such a great time getting to know everyone. We had an amazing time from traveling there on the bus, to tailgating, and actually enjoying some of our first NFL football game. Now I'm not much of a football girl but I can say I enjoyed every minute and I rook some awesome pictures. (Pictures below)  The FAMU March 100 played all of my favorite songs during the Halftime show and I enjoyed lots of food that I shouldn't have been eating. lol   It was a great way to end the week and to also bond with other Greeks. Even though the opportunity didn't  seem appeasing at first... I'm glad I went out on a limb and tried something new.

The Beginning of Something New!

I'm happy to introduce my new blog entitled Schoolin' Life.  Schoolin' Life was inspired by one of my favorite Beyonce songs that just talks about growing up and learning how to be a woman.  It's not always an easy task to stay on the right road but with Beyonce how can you go wrong? Being inspired by the song I realized I could name my lifestyle blog after this song (because I felt like it embodied everything I was trying to convey) My blog will consist of fashion, music, makeup and everything i found interesting and I think is interesting to others. I'm finally stepping out of my comfort zone and taking the baby steps to create something of my own. I've written for other blogs but this one is essentially made by me and written by me ( So stay tuned for changes in designs and I might switch up my writing styles) I'm extremely excited for this growth opportunity and hopefully I can stay consistent with my posts.  I found a quote that I believe really describes what life is really about.

The adventure of life is to learn. The purpose of life is to grow. The nature of life is to change. The challenge of life is to overcome. The essence of life is to care. The opportunity of like is to serve. The secret of life is to dare. The spice of life is to befriend. The beauty of life is to give. - Ritu Ghatourey

So without further ado.....
Who needs a degree when you're schoolin life?
